So. I have one last little rant for the MySpace audience. Now, I’m in a band. And have been in bands since I was 15. I know that dudes in bands saying stuff about other bands is enough to get someone labeled as a “shit-talker”. But I gotta get a few things off my chest, that revolve around several bands, local and national.

1.) You are not Screamo.

This argument has been posed 8 billion times all around the internet. There’s no clear winning side of the argument, given how flexible music is. But legit screamo, is a genre almost completely dead. There are still a few bands doing it, and doing it well. But most metal bands that use “Screamo” to describe their sound…are lying to themselves. You know who you are.

A friend of mine had a long write-up on Screamo and bands that started it and who are still doing it. I need to find that again. Justin Lloyd, hit me with a link to that if you read this.

2.) You’re not selling records for Jesus.

I’ve said my peace about Christian hardcore…and Christianity for that matter. So I’ll keep this short. Labeling yourself as a Christian-(whatever) band, is only further cheapening the idea of being Christian. Your god has a devine plan, right? Well I’m sure you holering about the glory of a dude you never met isn’t in that plan. Get over it.

3.) Instructional videos, especially about vocals.

Leave this to people that actually know what they are doing. When people want to learn how to play, they turn to their hero’s for inspiration. Not Johny J. YouTuber who things he has the best way to sound like a dying cat on the microphone. You’re not teaching anyone anything, and your hogging up bandwidth for the rest of us. Again, get over it.

But I digress, most of what these kids are doing now-a-days is for the fun of it. And that’s the name of the game. But really, stop taking yourself so damn seriously. Take it from someone who has been there, and lived to regret it.
